I have a surplus of laptop LCD screens. Is there a way to turn these into car video monitors?
I'm sure 12v DC would be required to supply power, but how could I determine how to hook up an RCA monitor connector for video?
what brand LCd screens and what is the model numb,
thanks
Hey
sburro2, ya wouldnt happen to have a replacement LCD screen for a Compaq 1200 Series XL300 laptop would ya, that you would part with???
Thanks ~Ed
It all depends on the video connections of the monitor.......
or you can look around on the net and find an adapter that can adapt the harness of the LCD screen to fit into whatever unit you are using....s-video, etc...you should be able to do it. and remember if all else fails, goto radio shack (they usually seem cheapest) buy a bunch of connectors and such, bust out the soldering iron and go to town.........It's possible, I know cause a friend of mine did it for me in one of my first ever attempts of intergrating car audio and computers......I just can't remember how we did it...all I remember is a lot of trial and error, a lot of beer, a lot of pizza and a lot of patience...but we got it. and with a lot better resolution!! but this was in like 98 so...it's been awhile.....Patience and time...and the ambition!!

there is a place on the net that specializes in this kind of conversions..... they sell adapters and casings and all sorts of stuff to make your laptop screen into a nice car video monitor also please sell the rest of us some of these surplus screens I need something over 10 inches to make into an overhead flip down for my daughters playstation in the back seat do a search on ebay under car video and search for lcd panels and one of the sellers has a linkt to the place that sells the kits to make the conversion
