hello! i just want some input from all you a/v installers. today i was offered a part-time job at a local car stereo shop doing contract installs for a local dealership (they sell a certain upper-class european suv, but i dont want to name any names). since i am out of work and have been for some time, this opportunity seems like a great one. the problem is i dont have a lot of mobile a/v experience, although i could do (and have done) audio all day long without flinching. they said they wanted somebody who could do it without having to be trained or asking a lot of questions, because it is a busy shop and they are short handed as it is. i mean, i know the basics and how to run wire and all, but is there anything that i should know about a/v installations vs. audio installations? like a/v processors, video filters, rules, regulations, laws, and codes? anything anyone has to offer would be great. any advice, tricks, secrets, etc. thanks, i appreciate your help!

Ok, for the most part the only thing that video requires is power, switched, ground, a video rca, audio rcas, dvd player, and audio input. Video is cake, but since you said "upper class european suv" you might want to realize that these are no where as easy as a tahoe.

The biggest issues you'll find is large screens are heavy and need to be mounted to roof supports in most cases... and the other issue is that you'll find engine noise might be a problem depending on the components that you use.... Last issue is Sunroofs....they can be a little more difficult in terms of making sure that they clear your screws.... overall not super difficult installs but time consuming.....I'm down to 2-3 hours in most chevy vans... laws...vary but the good rule of thumb is that if the driver can see it and its not being used for nav...then its probably illegal. Last ....If you drill through a roof....whos responsible...?? will their insurance cover it...??? Just have a plan... hope that helps... -------------

Video isnt that hard and you are going to have a distinct advantage over alot of us other installers. You are going to be working all the same type of vehicles all the time. Once you learn the vehicles and learn all the little tricks to disassemble and run wires and what not your times should be awsome and your going to be able to do high quality work in a good overall time. Sounds like a great job to me.
