So i bought a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer and one of the features i got was a factory overhead DVD, since the dealer tossed it in i fugred that was cool since i was gonna get one anyone, it saved me some money.
Anyways, after installing an Avic-N2 we noticed that the overhead dvd gets its power from the back of the factory radio (WTF)
The player is made by Auto Vision.... https://www.autovisiononline.com/auto-car-dvd-player-video-system/Auto-Vision-mountaineer-dvd-12277.html ...but they were of no help to get the unit powered.
I have yet to see an aftermarket peice available as well....now before you go saying just cut the wires and run them to a 12 volt source, we tried that. The wires off the unit read 10.4v and the other ones are 4v or less....kinda odd. When we run the 10.4v wire to a 12v source, it powers up the unit for a minute then nothing...
Someone please help....any ideas would be nice.
I think your problem with it turning on for a minute then turning off sudddenly is a problem with power..the unit isn't getting enough to sustain operation I think dont' quote me on that, I am NOT a professional installer but I had a satellite radio reciever/Head Unit do the same thing to me once...The unit had to be wired directly to a 12V Cigarette Lighter to be able to draw enough voltage to power both the Head Unit and Reciever. As far as creating enough...maybe try putting a Relay ??? I just thought I would throw my two cents in there to try and come up with a solution...might work might not.
