I'll be buying a new truck next year and would really like to put in a AVIC-D1. BUt I cant tell from the Dodge website if the 2006 model year would accept double DIN. (THe one picture of the dash on their site looked like it might). I wonder if any of the Pro's here have done double DIN retrofits?

Hello Giff,

I did. By using Genuine MOPAR installation panel, Double DIN installation was easy. I am very sorry that I don't know how to cut&paste installation picture on this forum. I use CAN-BUS interface and 2DIN face panel.

Good Luck!

Thank you, I didnt know and would not have even considering asking if MOPAR sold a 2DIN face plate- that should make things easier.

Hello NEUTRINO,

Just back from UNITED STATES, lot of installations waiting for me. Let me know your vehicle's interior color. I will give you mopor parts number for you. As Double DIN installation face panel&brackets, we use Japanese Mfg. I don't know there are available in USA or Canada. Thank you!

I put them in all the time in Ram's. Here is a pic of the install. Just a little fiberglass and some paint and it is all done. Takes about a day to complete.

Is that a 2005 and below RAM? Is that the stock panel that was cut larger with the ends fiberglassed in?

I am asking because I thought the Mopar part that was being talked about was for a 2006+ RAM.

I had this done to my 2005, but I think your panel is cleaner and straighter than mine - good job.

ATTENTION! I thin k I found the Aanswer to my DOUBLE DIN woes!!!

OK Heres the MOPAR PART NUMBERS for DOUBLE DIN Dash Bezels:

5JZ121DHAC - "D5" color w/ REC
5JZ121J8AC - "J3" color w/ REC
5JZ131Z2AC - this one says REC radio, but is woodgrain (JBB code)
1BN391Z2AB - REC radio, but SRT-10 design

Now to find out what else I need; www.dodgeparts.com sells a "Laramie" 2DIN dash bezel assembly for $45.00 US. I see people on Ebay paying 65+ for used ones (WHY does Ebay continue to appeal to people?????)

Can you post a link to any of these parts? Any pics? I find it odd that Dodge would sell a double-din bezel. What purpose would that serve Dodge?

Dodge offers a 2DIN Navigation radio in the 2006 AND 2005 model years. Therefore, (for the cranially "challenged") they offer replacement parts for said 2DIN dash assemblies. This means we can retrofit double DIN radios into the Dodge Ram of those years without having to resort to clunky custom fiberglass monstrosities.

Ok - I have a 2005 Ram. The radios in 2005 are completely different than 2006. 2005 was 1.5 DIN, even NAV radios.

2006 radios are wider than the standard double din, and also a little shorter. Go ahead and get the kit and let us know how the AVIC just slips in without any mods.

You'll also notice that 2006 rams have round knob cutouts on each side that need to be filled in. But you seem to know everything, without even owning a RAM.

I wish this bezel was for a 2005, but its for 2006 Ram's only.

So yes... ok - you win on the 2006! The new Mopar Nav radio appears to be true Double DIN, and they made a new bezel to accomodate it - cool. The old RB4 NAV radio is for the 2005 Ram, and it is 1.5 DIN. Even with a Bezel, the double DIN radio in a 2005 RAM requires much plastic hacking to get it to fit in there. I assume the 2006 has the extra room already.

Im actually tryin to install nav on my 06 ram. I got the bezel from dodge but the problem is, the whole is to big. Its almost a 1/4" all the way around, maybe a bit more on the sides. I cant find anyone with a trim ring to fill it

I apologize for the insulting comment above, but I just felt that people werent taking the the time to realize that I was correct about the shift by Dodge to 2 DIN for the NAV radios from 1.5DIN (in the 2006 model year). As it stands, my 2006 DOdge Ram 3500 Laramie has been loaded on the train and is somewhere between Laredo TX, And Kellogg, ID. (I ordered truck in February). I do not own the 2006 (yet) but I do own an older Ram! Looks like now though that the Dodge "2 DIN" is really a 2.1 DIN! (I will make the AVIC Z1 FIT though- whatever it takes!

Just to add in case someone needs, if you get the NAV panel, as you well know it's larger than 2-din so you can get the Metra 99-6510 dash kit for a factory look. This kit is for all Chrysler/Dodge models with the factory NAV dash panel and putting in a standard after market 2-din radio.

can someone please tell where to get the NAV panel for a 2005 ram 1500 ? Using the Metra 99-6510 would be great if I could actually find the panel. I went to dodgeparts and put the part# 5JZ131Z2AC in as stated above but it's not found. Please help.

Thanks in advance!

sorry I meant the double din bezel so I can mount a double din nav unit in a 2005 ram 1500

What he meant was the Dodge panel that everyone is talking about is for a 2006 RAM. It won't work in your 2005. I have a 2005 as well, its 1.5 DIN, so some custom panel work must be done unfortunately. I had mine cut open, fiberglassed, and painted. There also is some cutting behind the panel to get the unit to fit.

go to www.dodgeparts.com Then click on the "OEM catalog" link. Then enter the part numbers I gave in the search by part number box. Price has gone up a bit lately, but its still cheaper than buying it from an Ebay fraudster...
