Make sure that you have a good ground on the antenna. Also make sure that you have good, clean connection from your deck to the radio antenna.

www.crutchfield.com I ordered something from them for my car stereo and they sent me a whole bok on my own car. The book included how to replace the antena and radio antena wire in my car. They may have signal boosters as well.
Hi Jeff, one simple check... if you have FM reception and no AM reception, chances are you have a bad antenna or poor antenna connection. If you have good AM reception and poor FM reception or no FM reception at all, then it's likely you have a bad tuner.

Sounds like a problem with the tuner circuit inside the car stereo. It could be an intermittant problem or a thermal problem with a component. My Sony home stereo tuner used to have a similar problem and by turning it off (letting it cool down), then turning it back on, the problem wen't away for a little while. I got some Freeze/chill spray to find the culprit component.
Would reccomend checking the following:
1 - Antenna connection at radio, If its loose or fraying its bad news.
2 - Connection at antenna. Again if its loose and shabby, replace the antenna and/or wiring.
3 - If you are getting engine interference, try replacing the spark plug wires. These are the main source of interference from the engine. The rubber coating tends to deteriorate after a few years.
If none of the above works, you prob have a faulty tuner. Take the unit back and exchange it!
