The diagram I sent you says that the system requires a (-) pulse , which means that you the system that you are adding to the OEM system , has to emit a (-) signal to the target wires in order for the lock/unlock to work properly. The target wires should be ( 12 + ) idle and when the switch is pressed it should be (-) .

First of all the (-) pulse comes from the alarm or remote starter and this is what the Subaru needs to properly engage the door lock/unlock circuit and phrase " The wires should be located at the key" means that the wires are in the door by the key cylinder.
