went out looking for the body filler today
got meself the septone brand and mixed 1part hardener to 50 part filler, everything seem like it was going fine after spreading some of the mixture onto my fiberglass, nice and smooth. then when to apply more only to realise the mixture went rock hard posted_image could almost boil an eye though, can anyone put some light on wat when wrong?? anyways wasted 15$$ down the drain

I dont think you were supposed to mix a hardener with the body filler.  I think the hardener is only used in the resin to speed up the drying process.  I am not an expert or anything, but that is just what I can say after reading alot about fiberglass enclosure building.

wait you didnt mix the whole container at once did you? Unless you are extreamly fast you need to mix small portions and use them, then mix more...

i mix half at once thinking i have 5-6 min working time

but i ask if i mixed small amounts at a time, how accurate the mixture would be

oh btw

yea that stuff gets warm, i usually dont mix much at a time, but when i doi i use less hardener, i never measure it with fillers just mix untill it is a uniform color, if it is bondo mix to light pink, others usually lights blue / YELLOW...

thanks mate, yeh i hate measuring rather go with my own judgement

but i never use this stuff b4 and thought it be like mixing up resin get as much as i can for one surface area

anyways tis site rocks

there is a definete reason the hardener & the bodyfiller have different colors .next time try about a table spoon of filler and a dab of hardener mix it and watch it change color and you got it.

the ratio of body filler and hardener is 10:1.... a good rule of thumb is, if you have a "pile" of filler sqeeze a line of hardener across it... make sure it combines very well and also get rid of all of the air bubbles before applying
