Alright, well I want to hook my neons up to a switch, so that they will turn on with the switch, but when I open my doors, they will also turn on. Like this:

Switch on = Neons on
Doors Open = Neons on

so the switch will act as a(n)  ON/DOOR switch, kinda like a dome lamp. I tried to do this with a relay, but ended up blowing the relay. Can someone please tell me how to do this the correct way, so that I don't end up spending more money on items that should work the first time. Thanks.
