I was thinking down firing my sub would help protect it as I've cracked cones in my trunk in the past. How much affect would this have on my sound Q?

Also, does the height of the spacer beneigth make a difference? I'm thinking it might as similar to a port.

I'm building this box so all options are being considered.

move that sucker around and close the trunk and see how different it gets. firing it into the rear corner of the car frequently works well.

if its a ported box try to get the port facing different directions and experiment with it near and far from different panels. you might be really surprised with the different outcomes.

if its a big amp/woofer lots of power situation, try to mount the box solid.

Make sure that your surround isn't hitting the carpet, I would put spacers on the box itself if that is the case.
Had a silverado come in with 2 RF p210's that had premature surround wear because of the box that was downfiring. And the surround on those subs is super high anyway
