I will be installing a Compustar 2w900as in a 2004 Ford Explorer using an iDatalink ADS-AL-CA. I have not used any iDatalink units before and I know there is an issue with waking up the GEM on Fords. Will the ADS-AL-CA wake up the GEM? If not will somone please provide me with the directions necessary for waking up the GEM? Thank you.

This is the "manual way" to wake up the BCM, it really does not answer his question....

I'm really shocked no one has stepped up with the info... the idata stuff is about the hottest in the industry right now.

timaay, have you contacted anyone at idata yet?

After taking a look through the installation manual it looks like that piece when programmed with Ford firmware works just like all the other data based Ford bypasses. I would have to think this does not wake up the GEM.
However after all of these posts...the 04 Explorer does not have a GEM. It uses a VSM for the door lock controls. It does not go to sleep like the 01 F150 GEM does. No need to concern yourself with waking up something that does not go to sleep.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

I've done hundreds of Fords, and only a few had a GEM that goes to sleep. Just look in the owners manual and you can turn off the sleep feature by some lock switch presses. I never use any extra wiring to do that.

The Idatalink product will not wake up the GEM on select Fords that do have it. It is only a transponder bypass through all its firmware lineups.
