As a Christmas present my older brother received a JVC KD-NX5000 head unit. Well during the installation process he has run across a problem. He is having trouble hooking up the wire to his vehicle speed sensor wire. He has a 1985 Chevrolet Corvette. We are wondering if you all would be able to give him some guidance as to how he can go about hooking it up. One shop told him he needed to use a 40amp relay, another shop told him to use $250 and give it to them. We have been over and over and over his car trying to figure out how to hook this wire up and are completely stumped. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Here's the issue.  Your brother has a 1985 Vette, which if I'm correct has a standard speedometer gear and cable setup.  This speedometer gear turns with the rear wheels and if I'm not mistaken is housed in the rear differential.  This information on how fast the wheels are turning is then sent mechanically via the speedometer cable straight to the speedometer in the dashboard.  Now, I could be wrong, but I believe that in your case, the only way to connect the speed sense wire is to retrofit to a newer style speedo gear and electronic speed sensor.  I also believe that you'll have to update the speedometer in the dashboard.  AutoMeter may have an affordable solution for ya.  Good luck!
