Hello, I am getting ready to solder my 2002 Honda Accord Wiring Harness to the wires on a new Kenwood DDX812. The wiring harness has two leads for illumination: a DIMMER lead and a ILLUMINATION lead. I am wondering which of these I connect to the Kenwood's ILLUMINATION lead? I believe Crutchfield said to use the orange ILLUMINATION lead from the harness, but I would like to make sure. I really want the ability to have the head unit buttons to dim with the dimmer control if possible.
Thanks so much!

I think I just confirmed you DO use the orange factory ILLUMINATION wire to the deck's ILLUMINATION/DIMMER wire. I read that if you use the factory's DIMMER wire you risk shorting the circuit--hence the factory DIMMER wire remains unused.

If you are unsure , you can tape of the dimmer wire and use the dimming function in the DDX812    (  Standby-Setup -Monitor setup )

OK. Good idea. I like the idea of no short circuits! Thanks.

I just installed a Kenwood DDX812 and am very disappointed with the fit. Has anyone installed a Kenwood Double-DIN into a 98-02 honda? I have an Accord. Neither of the Kenwood trim pieces make for a clean install. Nor does the one provided in the Metra 99-7801 Installation Kit I ordered. It is at least 3/16" narrower than the opening in the Honda. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

UPDATE... everything works Awesomenow except for the metra install kit. (I started a different thread for this issue.) I'm afraid I may have to fab my own and I really wanted to avoid that! :/
It is amazing how good the system sounds now even with the factory speakers!

Happy to hear everythings sounding good. You should be very satisfied with the 812, the DDX and DNX series are good solid radios.

Definitely!  I took a bunch of pics of the install and had planned to post.  However I'm just waiting on that till I find a solution to the install kit kenwood ddx812, 02 honda accord - Last Post -- posted image.

OK.  The unit is in and works great!  The Metra kit did work fine using their (cheap) plastic brackets.  It essentially drops the unit back a bit so the trim plate is recessed.  The final gap is very very small.  I may do a custom dash once I can locate and extra dash insert.  I want to be able to bring the car back to stock when I sell.

Well, the Metra kit wound up working pretty good using the supplied (cheap) plastic brackets.  It brought the radio back just a bit so the trim kit worked with a very very small gap.  Hope this helps someone.
