We are doing an install in a cargo/atv trailer. I have a pioneer p-bus deck which I am doing the 2 cavle rca input via the changer port. I have a 12v dvd player and an ipod hookup. Can I run rca splitters with the dvd output and the ipod output both to the head unit? I was wondering if we use them one at a time will it allow it to still function properly? Also will the video input from the ipod and the dvd output video that goes to the tv be split? Wondering if I need a source selector or not?

you will need - RBDC20 plus a CD-IB100II, this will give you ipod with control at the deck + aux audio input

The right way to do it is with a selector.  If you want to try it with the Y adaptors, you will not damage anything by trying.
