I'm not exactly sure which topic this should be under, but oh well..

I'm doing a remote start on an 85 ram charger with factory cruise..

We've decided to wire an aux output on the remote start to either an actuator attached to the throttle or the cruise control(if we can get it to draw the throttle cable)...

The main reason we are doing this is so he can prime his carb so it'll fire...but the advantage of doing this is he'll be able to rev his motor...(he's a redneck)...

Has anyone done this? Or anything like it? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance guys

Use a trunk pop solenoid (stronger pull)

Since you gots a truck..... use the trunk pop output from the alarm.

"pop the trunk" a couple times..... and try   to start.

will that work? I was thinking if i attach an actuator to the linkage it might limit the travel of the linkage whenever you use the throttle... Whats the best way to hook it to the linkage?

I've done this before on a 1987 Dodge RAM diesel truck. You can use either the solenoid or the actuator. Here's advantages of both:

Solenoid: Can activate the solenoid and will pull for 1 second. Only problem is that you have to position the solenoid perfectly to pull on the throttle hinge otherwise it won't pull enough to knockdown the RPM's. Also, the other problem is that it only pulls for 1 second and if it's a diesel, you want it to high idle during remote start otherwise it won't heat up inside the cab.

Actuator: You have to find an actuator strong enough to pull the throttle hinge and you won't have the ability to do a 1 second pull. It will be high idle or nothing. The main problem is that you need to find an actuator that will pull at least 15-20 lbs but most are only 5 lbs.

In 1985 you had 2 options on motor, the standard (318 2 barrel) and the big motor (360) had an optional 4barrel carb.

If you have the 318, with 2 barrel carb.... properly tuned, this should be a piece of cake!

If you use the trunk pop solenoid you will be set.... one god yank, (maybe 2) and the choke is set!

As  far as the actuator limiting the travel of your accelerator, You will have to figure a way to attach something to the cable in a manner that will allow you to attach something from the actuator so that the actuator can pull the cable, and when the cable is pulled via the pedal, it needs to be able to slide out of the actuator, but remain within range of the actuator so when the pedal is released it will reposition itself for the next remote start.
