Has anyone encountered a problem where a vehicle is remote started and the car revs too high then shuts itself down. I do not know what type of starter or vehicle I was just asked by a friend if I heard of this happening. The Starter worked fine until this just started to happen. Any incite would be appreciated. Thanks

I've never seen it - the first thing I would ask is at what RPM is the car shutting down and then ask if the car is started with the key how high does the motor rev.  If there is something wrong with the car that is causing it to idle excessively high then I can see this being a problem, but it would be a problem with the car, not the starter - the starter is doing what it is supposed to do.

I've seen it plenty of times. It's built into most remote starters. It's to keep it from damaging somethign if for some reason the motor just keeps on revving. Of course it generally will only work on cars installed properly with tach learned. I once had to run voltage because the pos i was installing it onto would shut down because the thing idled way too high when cold, and would shut down.
A DMM is a beautiful thing.

Suggest you reset tach but try 2 things. First reset tach but keep the engine at over 1000rpm when you do it. If that fails, try letting it run for some time to achieve normal idle revs. at about 400-700rpm. one of those 2 is the right answer. Having said that, KP as usual is quite right, the R/S can't affect the engine's running once it has fired up, that's a problem with the engine, I would run a diagnostic on fuel system and engine management. Or even a sticking throttle linkage.

The problem only occurs when it is remote started not when it is started with the key. I will try the two fixes that you stated and go from there. Thanks.

I've seen this happen with one combination:
Audiovox remote starter
2002-2006 Toyota Camry
using fuel injector for tach signal.
The Code Alarm systems they sold for a little while at Circuit City were also famous for locking up if you gave them a tach signal they didn't like---they'd work for a couple of days, then just quit remote starting altogether.
Anyway, since you don't know what kind of remote start, what kind of car, or where the tach was, I would say to try getting tach at a different source.
If you used an injector, switch to a coil pack. If you used a coil pack, switch to an injector.

Yea I would check the tach. Had install a remote start on 2000 chevy blazer same problem, but that's because I had voltage sensing. After switching to a good tach signal. Truck started smoothly with no high rev just normal.

Could also put the car in reverse with your foot on the brake to reduce rpm's during learning...Not sure if that is the issue...Honda's maybe toyota's and some other vehicles(if im remembering correctly) have a high idle when first started...I would stick the car in reverse and hold brake during programming...Seem to work fine...Been awhile since ive had to do that...! And was normally associated with Ultra Start units...! (in my case anyway!)
