compustar 2 way remote start

Hello all, I have a Compustar 2-way remote kit RF-2W900FM-5P2. Do I have to mount the antenna on the windshield? I know this kit has long range, but will it kill the range if I mount the antenna some place under the dash. The antenna with this kit is ugly as sin and I don't want it in view. Any suggestions?

I allways mount the antenna on the windshield, you will lose some rang if you have it under the dash. I'm not sure what kind of vehicle you have but maybe the rear windshield is an option? that way it's less noticeable.**advanced mecp certified

I have a 2009 Kia Optima. There isn't enough cable from the brain to run the antenna to the rear of the car. I don't mind if the range drops a little, but I don't want it weak like the factory remote range is. I didn't know if tucking it in the side of the dash, where the fuse box is would affect range. I was just curious if anyone has tried it. I guess I can always test the range once I get it installed, and move it if I need to.

i mounted my gf's antenna on her compustar in her expedition in the A pillar, cut range from 1000ft to about 200. windshield FTW

windshield, make sure all that wire slack is stretched along the A pillar or in the headliner. dont bunch it up under the dash.Ted

I put mine under the dash and can still start the car walking two+ blocks away. I got lucky I guess :)

On BMW's and recently on a small KIA I find if i remove the dash cowling and instrument panel, I install the antenna there, facing the windscreen, making sure there are no cable runs blocking it. In fact in that KIA I also dropped the unit in there, picked up trunk and door triggers, lights, ignition stand off, I only had to drop down to the fuse box for power under the hood for siren and into driver's door for an actuator. I have a G4 Cliff with Intellistart, no "super range", the antenna is mounted behind the "A" pillar and I still get 350' range.
