Ok guys great thread/forum you have!
Before starting the installation wanting to confirm I have all in order.
Installation for a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited:
1) Viper 5901
2) CANMAX400DEI
        a. will flash firmware (400.CHRYSLER_2.01) with XpressKit XKLOADER2
Now do I still require to purchase a "Bitwriter 2.7" to program the Viper 5901?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

The bitwritter makes it very easy to program the 5901. It's a pain to do it without one. I am glad I bought one or half the things on our 5901 would never have been set up right.

I think you still will need the key bypass so you dont have to leave a key in the car to remote start. You can program the brain with the push button that does the programming. But you have to know how many presses to each options when set. the bitwriter would be the easy way of programing. That what I use.

Yes I was wondering about the key bypass as I would prefer not to leave a key in the vehicle for remote start ( defeats the purpose of security)
So the Bitwriter could program the Viper 5901 brain, not require a key bypass?
Or is the bypass still required and the bitwriter makes the programming simple?

Ok, did some more digging on the net.
Seems yes the Bitwriter is definately on the purchase list and also as TROC4434 wrote I should also purchase the DEI XKEYCHGM for this 2009 Jeep.
Sounds great,,, looking like that may be the final piece of the puzzle for orders.
Let you know once everything arrives here in the desert...

you DO NOT need anything other than the CANMAX400 for this vehicle as far as the key bypass goes. The CANMAX400 will do the bypass through the CAN bus.

Ok now I am confused as two 12volt posters have opposite recommendations:
Also the product XKEYCHGM states it is compatible with the CANMAX400DEI.
Why would the manufacture state it is compatible if not required?
If this is a matter of having a key in the ignition; I would prefer to have the XKEYCHGM installed with the CANMAX400DEI for obvious security reasons.
Unless I am incorrect, please advise the purpose of the XKEYCHGM?
