so, now that i commute i really am starting to notice my stereo eng complete pos...   I want to upgrade for under 500. here's my plan...
what i will get http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products/2006/audio/processors/EQS746/us-en-product-pf_1134643389018.html
^^ that is a sound processor, i will only be using my ipod so i figure i wont spend the extra on a HU. the factory HU will be in place, not in use. i have a place to mount this..
Then since i have a jetta i need speakers compatable with 6.75"
so i thought the type r component... last years model is like 150 a set.. i will get 2 sets.
as for the amp i figure i will just get some alpine AB class 4 channel amp on craigslist. as for the wiring.. i would like to be able to use factory HU as well as the processor.. is this possible?
Please give me suggestions on what can be better.

Never mind the factory hu. my question is do i need a hu to use an equalizer. all i want to use is the aux in on the back of the equalizer for my ipod. i never listen to the radio.. will this be too low of a preamp? is this even possible?
thanks for reply!

your stereo does not have any outputs to give this equalizer signal. I do not believe this is going to do what you are wanting it to. If you would like to integrate Ipod into your factory system I suggest you look into the Isimple brand specifically the model IS77. This is a universal factory Ipod integrator. Simply power it, ground it, and purchase  the Metra 40VW10 and 40VW20 to loop the antenna. This will give you what you want. Any best buy should carry what you need to do this.

and yes the radio does have outputs but they are not preamp.. they are made to go directly to the speaker.
