I was just informed from a friend that he tried replacing a speaker in a Chevy with an aftermarket speaker and it would not work. He ended up having to buy an oem replacement. He said something to do with the stock amp not allowing the aftermarket speaker to work. Do I have an amp? Any truth to this? Will aftermarket speakers work in my application? Thanks again!

Yes you have an amp.  yes you can replace the factory speakers with aftermarket, but read my post above this it kinda explains why the guy said you couldnt.  it is not that you cant.  it is that you shouldnt, due to the ohm load differances...  In short The sales person kinda lied, but not really.  he said you couldnt do it becaues he didnt want to sound like an eleitst pompus jerk  while trying to explain ohms law to you (for all he know u are clueless to this).  it is much easier to say you cant.  Than to say you could, but here is why shouldnt.  Exspecialy if his company did not carry and speaker like the infinity's or JBL's that i mentioned above.  There is no way he would send you to a store that could get those for you.  That would be throwing away business.  Sorry, but buying the factory stuff, you kinda got hosed.

If your cousin is such a good installer, and he will install anything for a 6 pack; why are you talking to me?
