I have an older Sony DVD head unit that will read the disc sometimes and not others. Unit seems to work better when it is cold vs hot. I have ran a lens cleaner through it didn't help. Anyone know if there is another option besides replacing the whole unit?
Thanks.

Sounds like a laser alignment issue, or possibly faulty electronics.  You could send it to a Sony service center and have it repaired, but check with them for a price quote first to make sure it's not as much as a new unit.

well according to sony, it will cost $122 to repair it. I do like the unit, but I think that is just a little too much to repair a laser alignment. I think I'll look into a local shop that might be able to handle it.

Thanks.

$122 seems pretty reasonable to me, much cheaper than replacing it.

The cost is not as excessive as the replacement option through Sony, but the unit is 6 years old and if I'm going to spend $122 I would rather invest it into a unit that has Bluetooth and iPhone options.
Thanks
