manual mode vs auto mode

Hey guys, don't want to start a flame war but want to be clear on reasons why this isn't allowed. Example, installed a 5701 on my Mazda 3, hooked up neutral safety switch as well as parking brake. So car won't start if its in gear or if the parking brake isn't on. Manual mode is configured and all testing shows it works as it should. Now Why is it bad to put this car in automatic mode, it still has all the same safety procautions, still checks for gear shift and parking brake. The only difference I see is the shut down procedure, which if I didn't leave the car correctly it wouldn't work anyhow. Again, no bashing I'm simple asking for views on this. I know it's against forum rules and manual cars should be left in manual mode but just want to be clear on why. Thanks

It's safer than no safety, but it's still relying on an electronic component that can fail. If the NSS were to fail, and fail open, it would no longer prevent the vehicle from starting in gear... and chances are you would never know until it was too late. As far as the ebrake goes, the car will still drive off no problem with the ebrake on so that is basically useless. With that said, I myself have my current setup in auto mode with the neutral safety switch, but I have it wired through the hood pin switch. So if I ever leave my car in gear and arm the alarm, it will show my hood being open, which tells me I left it in gear. This way I always know if it is in gear or not. Also, I test the switch weekly to ensure operability. The only reason I did it was because the Python manual mode activation is a PITA (have to press the remote start button on the remote which is dumb). Once I switch out to a Compustar system, I will be doing it properly and keeping it manual mode.Kenny

XS 2 with Kenny though I think the OP is OK, I won't flame you because I did exactly the same on my English build Nissan...except as Kenny points out we changed the gearbox and this one had no NSS switch. By the way don't the new Comps have an inertia switch so that if it feels the vehicle move it cuts out?

I have done installs on Subarus that have the NSS for manual trans and they always work great. I too have used the hood pin wire when the NSS is a negative trigger and the brake shutdown wire if it's a positive trigger. On all other vehicles i've done with manual trans, I use a remote starter intended for manual trans only. All my clients have always been understanding of the process required to protect them and their car from starting in gear.

Compustars have a very easy Manual Reservation Mode. Simply engage the ebrake and pull your foot off the brake pedal before turning off the car. It will stay running until you get out and close the door. Once the door is closed, or after a delay (depending on programming) it will automatically lock the doors and shut the engine down. Very easy to do.Kenny
