led light strips

2007 lincoln navigator with power running boards. I am putting the strip on both sides at the bottom. I want the strips to light up the running board when a door is opened. It says the +gray/violet wire is the door trigger in the alarm wiring diagram. Is there a trigger four each door separate from the courtesy lights and do i just ground the other wire? Wiring diagram and location if possible.

I'd assume that like most vehicles, there is only one door switch. Insert a diode into the existing alarm and courtesy lights circuits (if not already done) and include a diode for your light strip(s). The diode is to isolate each circuit - ie, prevent one from effecting the other(s). It's the same principle whether it's a grounding or a +12V door switch. When I was working on my remote start install, I was talking with a guy about my truck, and the data wire that the bypass for the r.s. unit uses, only monitors the front two doors, and the rear hatch. So I had to grab the 2 rear door triggers at the bcm to have an alert for all 4 doors for the alarm. Our vehicles may be different, however.2015 f150 xlt

Actually, re-reading your post, with the "power running boards" don't they automatically extend every time a door is opened? If so, why not just run a constant power source to the lights, and use the ground of the running boards for the lights. (most of the time the ground is what is switched, iirc) Easiest install scenario I can think of. Hope it helps...2015 f150 xlt

Maybe with a timer else the LEDs will only illuminate when the running board/s is/are extending or retracting.

good point, I guess I was assuming they remained powered until the door was closed and they retracted. Still leaves multiple options for the wiring, though. :)2015 f150 xlt
