94 civic ignition

I know this isn't a car fixit place but this is electrical and you guys have never steered me wrong

1994 Honda Civic

Battery fully charged

12v to ignition switch - check

12v out in first position - check and door dinger working

1/2v (0.5v) in on position and in start position, no dash lights, no door dinger

My first guess is a bad ignition switch

will not jump start either

did you check main ing fuse uderhood 50 amp

If the fuse mentioned above is OK, your switch is bad. I had the same car and the same problem. Mine would start and run till you released the key from the start position. The Ignition wire coming from the switch would not provide enough current to power the ignition circuit. But it would provide enough current to trigger a relay. I do not remember if the Ign wire was BLACK / YELLOW or BLACK/ White. 10Ga wire from Battery to terminal 30 of the relay. Fuse at 20 amps AT the battery. Cut the Ign wire a few inches back from the back of the switch. The end of that wire that goes to the switch to terminal 86 of the relay. Ground to terminal 85 of the relay. The end of the wire that goes to the car connects to terminal 87 of the relay.

The start wire is blk/wht (the one that should be charged when the key is turned all the way to start)

but I also have the same low voltage when just in the ON position

So do I relay the blk/wht wire or the blk/yel wire which is the one that should be hot in the ON position, since that is where it returns after starting

Ignition is BLACK / YELLOW.

When you turn the key to the start position, does the starter engage and turn the motor over?

You guys ROCK, and thank you for all your help.

I got the relay all set up, still didnt work, but I noticed I was getting 2volts instead of just .50volts, so I tested my way all the way back to the battery, and the 1 foot long positive cable that came from the +bat to the main fuse block, tested it,,,,2volts, tested the battery,,,,12volts,

remind me to check (very closely) that conection AT the clamp, it had a replacement clamp with the 2 tightening screws that squoosh the main cable, they were loose (but not enough to even notice looking at it.

Tightened them down and PRESTO.................fixed
