eh, garbage is a harsh word to describe a shallow sub. they are specialized, meaning not good for normal situations. when all you can fit is a shallow sub they are definitely better than nothing as long as you use then properly and dont expect the world out of them. just like a bazooka tube, they arent made to blow the doors off but they are better than nothing when you cand afford the space of a traditional box or the price of a custom fiberglass stealth box.

Garbage is pretty accurate. It was a waste of money and I plan to replace it this summer with something smaller that is not a shallow mount.

IOW you have more space for mounting?
Or are you saying a shallow woofer is worse than a 6x9 or 5" or 5" etc?

I have about 3" for mounting depth.
Anything will do a better job. When I was a kid I put 4 - four inch Fosgates in the rear deck of my Olds Calais and they sounded like I had a sub in the trunk and had more kick than this 12" shallow mount.

Sport Trac. I was willing to cut the body, weld boxes, whatever. There is no place to do it. The floor is gas tank, and the bed meets up tight against the cab.

if this were my car id be pulling the center console and building a console box. sometimes the car just wont allow anything other than a custom box if you want something to sound good.

Sorry to thread hijack...but seems relevant...
What about using the shallow subs for mid-bass?
Meaning, if you had two 12" normal depth subs and two 8" shallow depth subs?

a sub is a sub, its probably not designed to sound good playing mid frequencies.
