Its been awhile since I have installed one of these. What is the best settings for this?
Also, do you recommend installing a diode just incase it doesnt "falsely" trip the alarm?

It shouldn't need a diode at all.
The best way to test these is to install it to a hard surface that doesn't move (i.e. the steering column) and rock the car. You want to make sure the wind doesn't set it off. If a slight rock sets the alarm off, cut the black wire loop on the 507m. This will change the setting from the 1º threshold to 3º.
