Remote starts are a pain in manual cars. this is due to the fact that there is no neutral sensor built into manual cars.
I found an idea online to user springs on the north and south sides of the shift lever, and energize (or ground) the lever to complete a circuit. I tried this and it worked fine. But the setup was too mechanical, to prone to failure.. also- i had to use a relay- if the car is left in gear while parked it would eat up battery and get quite warm, which can also lead to failure.
so i found another idea online- using magnetic switches. i found some on amazon for about $8 each, then found some more on ebay that were $5, and the ebay ones have a N/O AND N/C circuit. there are no contact points to wear here. check out the evolution..

this last one uses a N/C circuit. I wired it to the hood safety input. it will throw a ground signal to remote start when in gear.
Its a good idea to have the ebrake in series with this so that both variables have to be satisfied for a start.

using a manual transmission enabled remote starter would eliminate the need to do all of this. if you have an automatic start only unit, then the dei 451m would be an alternative

Those switches are hall effect switches and the idea has been around for at least 20 years, superceded as Ted says by manual compatible units AND the fact that some manufacturers, e.g. Subaru and Nissan incorporate Neutral Safety Switches in the gearbox.

I hope you have a good lawyer as any install like that is very dangerous. If any tech that worked for me tried that, I would fire them on the spot. Here in Ontario, you would lose your license over this. Please don't ever try this and if you have, disconnect it. Remote starters are designed to work in manual transmission vehicles with some simple extra connections. They are designed to eliminate stupid humans from hurting ourselves or others. There is only one way to do things. Properly and safely.
