I'm building a '53 ford f-100 and wiring is the current project. I'm having a problem with dome light circuit. Here's what I have. Original equipment dome light with switch. Light housing provides ground for the circuit. Uses a single filament bulb with the case contacting the socket to make ground. two non grounded door switches. 12 volts applied from fuse panel to switch and to one side of door switch wiring.
My new headlight switch has a dome light position that grounds the circuit to complete the loop and lights the light.
With my dome light housing grounded this switch will not work (i don't think) I need a wiring diagram that will let me use the grounded housing (expensive) and the headlight switch (expensive) together to make lights on using the position on the headlight switch... the door switches and the switch on the housing (although that seems redundant doesn't it) I guess I could somehow isolate the housing from ground but it would take some fabrication work for that.
Ron Francis wiring offers a "reverse dome relay" (also expensive) that they say will cure this problem... but it shouldn't be that hard, right ?? I've just got a mental block on this

Hi John, connect the ground output from the headlight switch to an SPDT relay like this with the output from the relay going to your dome light: https://www.the12volt.com/relays/relaydiagram8.html

No. The door switches should supply 12V+ directly to the dome light. The relay is needed only for the headlight switch to turn on the dome light.
