Here is a quick and easy Stand Alone Remote Start upgrade for the current model Ford F150. This
truck was a 2019 with regular ignition key ( not Push to Start ), automatic transmission, Remote
Keyless Entry and Factory Alarm system. An iDatalink ADS AL-CA bypass module flashed with the
RS-FM8 firmware will work with 2015 through 2019 F150's with automatic transmission and PTS
or regular key ignition systems.
This is a nice upgrade for the DIYer as there are only 7 permanent wire connections to the truck, the
vehicle wires are very accessible and no special programming is necessary once the ADS AL-CA has
been flashed with the correct RS FM8 firmware.
Be aware that the truck remote start is triggered by three Lock commands in a row from the factory
FOB, so make sure the factory FOB range is acceptable. The upgrades' range can be extended with
additional parts and aftermarket FOB's but that will not be covered in this Pictorial. ( The vehicle
wiring would be the same, just extra items to support the aftermarket FOB's. )
What you need :
2015 - 2019 F150 with automatic transmission and RKE
ADS AL-CA bypass module flashed with the RS-FM8 firmware ( or FLCAN w/ RS-FM8 firmware )
Inline fuse holder with 5 Amp fuse
8 mm deep socket and ratchet handle
Soldering iron, solder, Scotch Super 33+ tape, Tesa 51608 Tape, diagonal cutters, wire strippers,
utility knife, tie wraps, heat shrink tube, etc
3 hours of time
Optional Hood Pin or Mercury tilt switch is required if you don't have a Factory Hood Pin.
Your truck must have Factory Remote Keyless Entry and an automatic transmission. You
will use a Lock-Lock-Lock sequence on your Factory FOB to kick off a remote start.
You should check / test your truck to see if you have the Factory Alarm system with a Hood
Pin. Extra parts and wiring is required if you don't have the Factory Hood Pin.
Prep work :
Obtain the ADS AL-CA bypass module from a reputable seller that will flash the module with
the RS-FM8 firmware prior to shipment. There will be no way for you to tell if this was done
unless you have the ADS-USB flash cable and online access to the iDatalink link site. The
defaults on the bypass module are OK for most applications. They give you a 15 minute
run time and the Lock-Lock-Lock start sequence.

Using the Type 2 Install Diagram on Page 10 of 23 in the guide, bench prep the module by selecting
the correct / necessary harnesses and plugging them into the module. As shown, only M2, M4
and M5 are needed. If your truck does not have the Factory Alarm system and does not have
a Hood Pin, then M6 will be necessary, along with a Hood Pin or Mercury Switch mentioned above.
The five unused wires on M2 can be cut off to provide a clean install. The same is true for the
unused wires on M5 ( and M6, if needed ). Add the inline fuse to the Red +12V module input.
Neatly bundle the 3 wires going to the Parking Light switch and the 4 wires going to the OBD2
connector. Use the Tesa tape mentioned in the supplies section for a factory harness look.
Not much needs to be done. Use the deep 8mm socket to remove the 2 nuts holding the OBD2
socket in place and gently pull in down for wire access. Remove the left side dash panel with
a non-marring trim tool then gently pull the lower dash panel back and away from the dash to
expose the back of the Headlight Switch assy. Release the Headlight Switch plug and remove
or roll back the harness wrap to expose the wires. That's it. Photo's below :

With the single CAN ADS AL-CA, you must make temporary connections to the MS CAN
wires during programming. This can be accomplished by using Posi-Taps as shown below :
While they are not cheap, they will provide an easy way to accomplish the dual CAN programming
and not harm the vehicle wires. Posi-Tap PTA-1800M is shown in the photo and will work with
18 to 24 gauge wires. While you might be tempted to use these taps on all your connections,
I would still recommend a nice solder joint for long term reliability.
As mentioned above, if your truck does not have a Factory Hood Pin you must add a
jumper between the two wires in the vehicles unused hood pin harness. The photos below
show the location of the harness and the two wires ( in a truck with a hood pin ).
Using a mercury tilt switch attached to the hood hinge is a reliable rust-free way to add
the safety of a hood pin if your truck does not have a hood pin.
Shown above is an Omega AU46 mercury tilt switch.
That's about it. Follow the bypass module programming steps and then test the install.
Use a few tie wraps to secure the module and the wire harness. Pop the dash panels back
together and re-install the OBD2 plug with the two 8mm nuts. Remote start for your
truck for less than $60.00 !
