So if I understand correctly - I can use the fortin key override in conjunction with the viper rs/alarm unit ? Assuming they plug into each other..
If the installation is a straightforward as illustrated on fortins website, I should be able to buy the viper kit I'm interested in (5706v) and wire it up over a weekend.

There are some bypass modules that are kind of plug-n-play. That is where the connection between the R/S and the bypass is handled via Data on a single 4 pin harness. That is not possible with a Viper 5706 and the Fortin Key-Override-All. You will have to make those connections with individual wires. This isn't a big deal, it's only three wires ( +12V, Chassis Ground and Status Output ). The three connections from the bypass to the vehicle have to made with either type of install.
As a side note, if you were to find and purchase a Directed PKALL, you could go D2D and use the 4 Pin data harness rather than making those 3 wire connections between the 5706 and the bypass module. The PKALL is the same as the Fortin Key-Override-All, it's made by Fortin for DEI and supports the data connection. Here is a link to that install guide :

I would post your purposed wiring using the Viper 5706, Fortin Fortin Key-Override-All and all the connections to the Highlander for member review. It will save you time and headaches during the actual install.

Ok so the viper 5706v with this

And make the connection between the two in either of the ways you listed and then all of the wire connections, relay connections.
Would the fortin t-harness for my vehicle work together with these rather than making individual connections under the steering column?

Yes on the PKALL bypass module. Did you do the aluminum foil test? Just make sure you get it from a reputable seller and that it is Brand New and Unused. Once they have been programmed to a vehicle it can't be reused.
The Fortin Thar-One-TOY1 T-harness only handles the main ignition harness wires and the other end ( E1 ) has a connector and pin out specifically for the EVO-ONE. While it wouldn't be a direct interchange ( 10 Pin Viper to 6 Pin Fortin ), you could make it work if you cut off E1 and soldered the wires to the correct wires on the Viper 5706. You would still need a relay for the extra Starter wire and lose Starter Kill.
If you want an XK01 flashed with the TOYDL firmware for the door locks PM me. It will save you a relay, three diodes and some time finding the three vehicle wires.

I was able to confirm that the car DOES have an immobilizer. The flashed xk01 will eliminate the need for relay and diode setup for locks and make it much more "plug-n-play" , correct?

Slightly...
Instead of the relay, diodes and 3 wire connections plus cutting the Highlanders Lock Detection wire the XK01 needs only one connection to the car. While you could go with the 4 pin data harness to the Viper for power and control, that would use the Vipers one Data port. Then the PKALL would be manually hardwired to the Viper instead of using the 4 pin Data port. Either way it's only a few wires between the Viper and the PKALL or XK01 and making all those connections on the bench isn't a big deal.
