DEI Module Firmware

I found some old equipment I bought around 2010; A Viper 5901 alarm/remote-start and a XpressKit DB-ALL. I'm trying to figure out a way to install this on my 2010 Honda Civic. I just found out that DEI locked down their website so only authorized dealers can get access to the firmware. So what are my options? Anyone have a dealer account and can get me the correct firmware? Or do you know of someone that sells pre-flashed modules for fairly cheap? I can probably find an entire kit from a no name brand for less than $100, but I'm trying to salvage what I already have.

The Viper 5901 is an older model but very capable. It doesn't require a firmware load or upgrade to work with your 2010 Honda Civic. The problem is with the DB-ALL. It is a capable unit but superseded by several newer DEI bypass modules. As you found out the main problem is getting it flashed with the correct firmware for your 2010 Honda Civic application. You might get lucky and find a friendly installer at Best Buy or a local 12 Volt shop that will flash it for you. Another good option is to find an EBay seller that will sell you a Fortin EVO-ALL and flash it with the correct firmware prior to shipment.   This bypass module would replace the DB-ALL. You must specify that you want the EVO-ALL to "talk" to a Viper R/S unit via the D2D data cable and to set the F3 option to DBI to enable that feature in the EVO-ALL. It looks like a Fortin EVO-ALL costs about $71 or more. I'm not sure I want to spend that on this specific setup. I'm on the fence. Mixing Fortin and DEI products complicates things a bit, having two different manufacturers. Although, I do see that they are compatible. I previously tried one of those plug in play models; It was $200, super easy install, and it worked. But it had a major security flaw. The door locks cycled upon remote start. Someone could just open the doors. The manufacturer told me they cannot change that, so I returned it.

Doing an Unlock is the only way for some bypass modules to turn off the factory alarm system during a remote start on some Honda's. It does re-Lock the vehicle after it's started but there is that short couple of seconds where the doors are unlocked and a thief could get in. Of course, with an Automatic transmission, they wouldn't be able to put it in gear without stepping on the brake pedal and shutting down the remote started engine. I don't use DEI products so I'm not sure if the DB-ALL handles the Civics factory alarm system that way during a remote start. If your Civic doesn't have the factory alarm system, you might be able to turn off that DB-ALL feature. Still the issue is getting the DB-ALL flashed and configured correctly. It's a DEI dealer only process due to DEI internet site sign-in and you do need additional hardware.Soldering is fun!

That's exactly what the manufacturer also told me. It did re-lock, but I could open the doors during that time. I'm not worried about someone driving away with the car. They could, however, steal items from the inside of the car. I live in a major city and this is a common occurrence. Sometimes I even see shady people walking down the street just pulling on every car door handle to see if they can find an unlocked car. Even if this were a manual transmission, they're not getting far without the key; The steering wheel should still be locked and touching the brake would stall the remote start. Regardless, my car does not have a factory alarm. They should have implemented a way to disable that lock cycling but they did not. For reference, the brand was Start-X. I didn't even think that the DB-ALL might also cycle the locks, but I kinda doubt it does. I first bought a DEI remote start around 2005, when most people had never even heard of these. That was fun, to freak out people passing by my car and it starting without anyone in it. But now that they locked down their website, I'll never buy another DEI product again!
