Hey everyone,
I'm trying to get my Viper 4806V remote start installed in my 1999 Silverado 1500 (gmt800) and I've been trying to figure out what connections I need and what ones I don't. I have been trying to figure this out (on and off) for over a year now and every single time I just get confused and/or overwhelmed and/or frustrated.
I am planning to use the relay/resistor method to get around VATS so I don't think I need an additional module for that. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Do I need relays for this specific install (other than for VATS)? How many? Every time I try to figure this out I just want to cry lol, and I can't afford to have someone install it for me. Plus I'm stubborn. I WILL get this installed. I just need some help. I'm very comfortable working on my truck and with wiring things in general but for some reason this remote start is causing a mental block. If anyone could just tell me what I need to connect and where, I'd be forever indebted to you.
Anyway, here are the directions for installation that I can't seem to figure out.
Thank you!

Is it just the remote start portion where you're hung up, just the alarm, or both? Have you looked in the Vehicle Wiring tab at the top of the forum? Kreg posted a fairly in depth pictorial that should help you quite a bit.

I guess I'm not even sure the answer to that. I had been viewing it as one install. Ideally I'd like to get as much functionality as possible. I actually created an account on here specifically to message Kreg with a question, but I am no longer using a bypass (at least I don't think I need to with my resistor+relay method) so the question I asked him doesn't apply anymore. I thought about sending him the above question, but ultimately decided to open it up to anyone. I also am wondering if these connections are the only ones I need for remote start function only? Thank you

Got it. You'll need to power 3 ignition wires, 2 can be powered directly with the Viper. A third will need a relay (triggered with the small pink/white). Accessory will need to be connected for the heat/AC. You'll need relays for the door locks to convert polarity. Another relay will be needed for your resistor bypass setup.

Viper guides could definitely be more detailed as they can be confusing. I'm commenting on the wires that need changes, so if I don't mention that wire, you have it correct:
Main Harness, White 6-pin connector
3 BROWN (-) 200mA HORN HONK OUTPUT - if you want the alarm to sound, connect this to the truck's negative horn wire (black)
5 WHITE PARKING LIGHT OUTPUT- #30 COMMON of onboard relay - if you want parking lights connect this to the truck's parking light wire (lt blue)
6 ORANGE (-) 500 mA (GWA) GROUND WHEN ARMED OUTPUT - this can be used if you want starter kill. Use this diagram: here
Remote Start, White 8-pin connector
1 RED/BLACK (+) FUSED 12V ACCESSORY/STARTER INPUT - this, along with the other fused red wires in this harness will connect to a constant 12 volt source (battery power, not ignition). The red or red/white at the ignition harness will work.
3 PINK/WHITE (+) IGNITION 2/FLEX RELAY OUTPUT #30 of FLEX RELAY - this will connect to your ignition2 wire (white at the ignition harness)
4 RED (+) FUSED 12V IGNITION 1 INPUT - this connects to constant battery power (red or red/white at ignition harness)
5 VIOLET (+) STARTER OUTPUT - this will connect to your starter wire (yellow at ignition harness)
7 RED/WHITE (+) FUSED 12V IGNITION 2 / FLEX RELAY INPUT #87 - this connects to constant battery power (red or red/white at ignition harness)
Door Lock, 3-pin connector
1 BLUE (-) 500mA UNLOCK OUTPUT - if you want door lock control with the Viper, use a relay to convert polarity to positive:
here connect the relay's 12 volt output to the truck's white positive door unlock wire
3 GREEN (-) 500mA LOCK OUTPUT - if you want door lock control with the Viper, use a relay to convert polarity to positive:
here connect the relay's 12 volt output to the truck's lt blue positive door lock wire
Auxiliary/Shutdown Harness, White 24-pin connector
1 PINK/WHITE (-) 200mA IGNITION 2/FLEX RELAY OUTPUT - use this to trigger a relay to power your truck's third ignition wire: here connect the relay's 12 volt output to the truck's brown at the ignition harness
10 BLUE* (+) or (-) FACTORY HORN INPUT (Use Jumper to set polarity) -- NOT USED this is an input, not an output. Horn will be controlled by the brown wire in the main harness
Hopefully this gets it going. Also be sure to program this for automatic transmission as the Viper default is manual. Post back with any follow up questions and we'll try to get them answered.

Okay, thank you so much. That is exactly what I was looking for. I’ll try and carve the time out to get it installed sometime this week and I’ll report back. Again, thank you so much

RELAYS
Starter Kill
86 - connect this to ignition power (pink at ignition harness). That way it's not creating extra draw on the battery when armed. Otherwise if it sits a few days, the relay stays energized anytime it's armed, drawing down the battery.
Connect the purple Viper starter output to the vehicle side of the cut (not the key side). That way you can remote start while armed but it won't start with the key.
Other than that, looks good.
