2003 bose speaker systems

 Does anyone know the ohms, on the 2003 gm bose speaker systems.  I have a pair of infinity componets and infinity 3" plates that i had in my old truck that are 4 ohm. I have a new truck with the bose speaker system.   I was wondering, which speakers are better? The bose or the infinitys.  Will the infinity's hurt my factory bose amp, if the ohms are different?

The infinitys are definitely better speakers, but unfortunately for you they will not work all that well with the bose system in your new truck.  Bose speakers usually have an impedence of 1 ohm, whereas most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms.  What this means is that if you were to replace, say, one blown bose speaker with a single aftermarket speaker, all of the bose speakers offer up less resistance to the bose amplifier, and thus they will play much louder than the aftermarket speaker you just put in.

If you do this for all of the speakers in the vehicle, the effect is obviously not as bad because they'll all be less loud, but it still will mean you'll have to turn the bose system up a lot higher to get the same volume from the infinity speakers.

The infinity speakers will not hurt the bose amp at all.  Now if you had a standard stereo system and were trying to replace standard 4-ohm speakers with 1-ohm bose speakers, then the bose speakers would try to suck more power from the amp than it can reliably put out.  More than likely the amp (or head unit if you had a standard system with an amp built in to the head unit) would get fried, or at the very least overheat on a regular basis and go into protection mode.

If you don't mind taking apart your vehicle to get to the speaker locations then it's always work a try...you can always hook up the infinity's just to see what they sound like.
