i was not really wondering why the sub made the pop. i was wondering why my radar detector would only work when the door was open and why the deck would stay on only when the radar detector was hooked up

That's what I said- the radar detector and deck were both connected to the light circuit. The door opens and closes the circuit, switching on the light. The radar detector acted as a switch to close the circuit, and that provided power to the deck.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

no no no no....the deck stayed on when the radar detector WAS NOT in the car. and when the radar detector was inproperly hardwired, it would only work when the door WAS OPEN.
