how do you figure the airspace for an oddly shaped enclosure,,,say a fireglass or a box with more than the regular sides and angles?

depending on the material...fiberglass you can use water. or you can use packing peanuts for the oddly shapped mdf enclosures just realize that the packing peanuts are not exact by ne means.. also if you draw the enclosure on paper try breaking it up into several smaller shapes that you can calculate the volume of..

The most accurate mehtod is either water if the enclosure is waterproof or sand. Both will yield a very accurate volume. Fill the enclosure with the substance and then pour it into another container with a shape whose volume can be easily calculated. A square box or pail are good choices. Then just do the math.
