Just purchased a bitwriter for my viper 791xv. tryed plugging it up and hitting read file, and it says "not a valid system". The bitwriter is V 1.4, the car if needed is a 98 acura integra Ls.

The only time I have ever seen that message is when the software isn't up to date. It is the only thing I can think of.

Nope, don't need the key but you do need power. To update the software all you do is replace a chip. Does anyone know the current version of software DEI is on for the bitwriter?

Alarm must have power, in other words it just needs to be hooked up.

The current version of the 998T Bitwriter software is 1.6.  You can purchase the software chip at http://www.mralarm.com for $10.00 plus shipping.
