dead battery

I have a 95 nissan altima. When i came to my car one morning it would not start. I have a alarm system and a amp and sub woofer in my car. I notice that my antenna did not go down like it normally would. but what could have caused that my radio was off so did my amp stay on and run my battery down. also how do i do a stand by current drain test on my battery using the (shunt method) or whatever that is.

how do you measure the stand by current drain on a car battery using a dmm. do i have to use the shunt method. and if so what is that. also after i do the measurement what are the numbers that i need to know to determine if my after market stuff is draining my battery.

no you cant do it shunt. you have to disconnect a battery terminal and place the DMM in seires between the battery and the disconnected terminal, the meter must be on the current setting (DC A) usually they will have a lower current like 2A start with that and work down if its not autoranging.

dont try to start the car or turn anything major on or the meter will blow a fuse, if its on an unfused current setting it will probably just light on fire....

look at the obvious stuff first, , like how old is your battery, , have your lights been dimming excessivly?  It could be a faulty alt, or an old battery on its last leg.

after replacing my old sterio system in the car, I have encounter similar situation of a drain battery ?

At first I though it was a incompatible Alternator which is not charging enought Amp for the whole operation ( CD ignitions, Power group, @ amps, cd changer etc. )., After hving the alternator rebuilt to a 90 amp from or'gl 60 amp there are much improvment, now my battery is drain in about 5 days VS dead in 1 day of driving.

I think there must be more to a simple lack of Amp ? perhaps may be the power source is hook up incorrect ? As it goes directly from the BAtt Terminal to the power block distributor to Amps. Perhaps the power sources shud come out from the secondary circuit instead of the primary circuit ? May be I shud hook the Amps to the running Fuse boxes ?

Anyone have any suggestioin as to how to deal with this ?

Audio system is 2 x 300 watt power Amp

1 - 10 disc cd changer

1 - console control deck

2 - 8" sub + 4 2way spkes 100 W capacity.

I really don't think this set up wud impose a drain on the current setup ? perhaps maybe a short somewhere ?

Any comments welcome !
