im going to be insatlling a avital 3300 on my 2000 neon.  i have been trying to place the antenna.  i dont want to stick it to the window.  but there is a small gap between the headliner and the roof, right next to the window, do you think this will work?  or will it be obsturcted?  also this will sound like a complete newbie question, but is there anyway to wire the antenna so it interfaces with the factory antenna??  that would be GREAT range

Hey all,

Just fiunished installing my Matrix 3.5 into my '89 240sx, everything works fine, but my tach is all whacked out.  The needle twitches wildly during deceleration when my foot is off the gas, and during hard acceleration.  I've done the tach learning procedure as described by the manual, and it's not as bad as it was, but it definitely doesn't behave like it used to.  The connection between the tach wire and the alarm is clean, no fraying or exposed threads.

Anyone else have this problem with this particular alarm?  What could be causing this?  And most importantly, what should I do?

Well, it's now mounted right behind my rear view mirror, about as high up in the car as I could get it, and I'm still not too impressed with the range.  For something that boasts reception up to a 1/4 mile, the best I can get is about 100 feet with clear line of sight.  If I'm indoors, or around a corner, then it's about 40 feet.  Is there any way to boost the range so that it approaches the range advertised?

I would suggest onhooking the tach wire from alarm, and see if the problem is still there.  That way you can at least tell if it is the alarm, or the car.  Good luck.
If it don't fit, Force it.
If it breaks, You needed a new one anyway!

If its vehicle related only. Then it could be a sign of the alternator, coil, ignitor, distributor, or internal rotor.
When they checked your electrical system. How did they varify its condition?

It's alarm related.  I had the wire tapped for a few days before hooking it up to the alarm, and it was fine.  As soon as I plugged it into the alarm brain, it went weird...
