this is to those of you who work with directed equipment. we have been geting a lot of calls from customers that their cars have started by them selfs, i am chalking it up to the timer mode, it just seems strange how many calls we have been geting about this, let me know if you are seeing this, also all summer we have been having remotes coming in that are not working, i know the remote is very vulnerable to damage, but just like the timer mode thing we are seeing increase in remote failure, let me know if you have info thanks!!!!

Not related to Directed, but there was a similiar situation with the Command Start brand remote starter's in this area about 2 years ago. The problem was 2 things, the remote's controls over time had the buttons depressed and was making contact intermittently causing a starter engagement and the other was the cold start feature where a temperature sensor was to be mounted on the coolant line was mounted incorretly and caused the problem.

Yeehaw! I have 4 guys at work that have this problem including myself. We are alerted merely by our stereos going full blast after remote start. The transmitter doesnt show the car is running. It happens about every 2 months on instance. I also have another guy that has his alarm disarmed in the same parking lot.

We have a large power distribution center behind our work place so we have always attributed it to that. I would love to see a resolve to this one. In addition the remotes tend to stop working. It requires a "hard reset" disconnecting the power to the alarm for about 15-30 secs for the alarm to wake back up.

Our total amount of installs of these units is most likely around 80 or so. Our luck with them is about 50/50.

curious RufNUSD, does this alarm your talking about have anti-scan i.e. it shuts down the receiver circuit for a short time if it sees what it thinks is random frequencies being thrown at it?

double check the WHITE/ blue wire. That's the negative activation input, which starts the car when it sees ground. We had a few cars once where an installer was cutting that wire short because it was unused, and not properly insulating it. At times, it would come into contact with the metal knee bolster in front of the steering column and the car would start. Also, find out who installed the alarms that customers are having problems with. We had a lot of customers come back with problems, and they all had installations done by the same installer. He got into the habbit of not soldering the brake shutdown wire, so all these customers eventually could not shut down their remote starts unless they used their remote. The parking lights were flashing the entire time they drove their car unless they turned the parking light or headlight switch on.

Just some ideas that might help, good luck!

we had a lot of timer mode people when they owned a vehicle with an older avital 3000/3200 and the remotes changed for the 4000/4200 to pusshing the * twice for normal start, and both buttons for timer.

ya i've had many customers saying there cars are starting at three o:clock in the morning ... was funny !! on most newer dei remote start alarms, unsure about avital, it is dei but havent installed any at all. but newer versions activate by pressing * button twice to engage / dis-engage starter ! ! ! and by pressing lock and unlock buttons at the same time starts a timer ! ! ! im in cali so it is not common for us to use that feature here . doesnt get that cold !!!! only the wanna-be race w/ stock hondas and no turbo use it ha ha ha ! ! ! (dumasses) sorry for rambling !!!

as a rule i find it boils down to customer education..... explain to the customer exactly how the various timer modes work and you'll have very few problems....

I've been selling and installing DEI products for about 5 years now with no problems.... in talking with the company and my rep it seems that 95 % of the problems and complaints they deal with are big box stores that just install it and hand the customer the keys and send them on their way without spending the requisite time explaining exactly how things work.....

models like the Avital, Hornet and Valet AM 2 ways have multiple timer modes that have to be properly explained to customers......

i have also installed viper product for the last 10 years. apart from the few hickups with the new models like range issues exc.

but i find it interesting that other people have problems with it starting by itself i also have had two come back that have been installed in the last 6 months. and also the transmitters have been failing left and right. the led in the remote still works but no good. I just program new ones and send the customers on there way........ hhuuuuuummmm
