on these plastic pieces can i just cover them with resin and then a thin layer of body filler to get that glossy look. or do i also have to cover them with mat?

I've seen several posts on this forum and others that suggests against resining plastic. The've said it won't stick or something, but in nearly all the cases ppl have done it neway and posted good results.

And no you would not have to use mat since you are just glazing it.

Good Luck and lemme know how it comes out cause I have a similar case I am gunna be working on soon.

If you take the pieces off amd wet sand them first with 180,  then with 320, then 600, then 1000 grit sandpapers then you will take all of the texturization off the plastic and it will leave you with a very smooth paintable surface.  Just make sure to use Bulldog or a similar paint to plastic adhesion promoter.

I agree with ruf.  Better off just sanding, prmoting, and painting. Its rough getting that stuff to stick to plastic. Fiberglass or bondo. Its time consuming to sand the texture out, but its alot faster than fiberglass it. If i have a chance I can send you pictures.
