Here is my scenario. I have the 2004 Mazda 6s with Bose system. In order to hook up an amp you solder in RCA into the line out coming to the Bose sub. Thus creating a line out.

The line out voltage is rather low, resulting in amp control being almost max.

Would you run a line driver to increase line voltage? Or leave it alone?

I'd leave it alone.  A line driver will amplify more than just the signal, it'll also amplify all the noise in the factory system.  If it's working and you were able to match the voltage output by adjusting the input gain on the amp, then you have done things correctly.
