I don't see anything wrong helping DIY out...... there will always have folks that will install their own and then you will folk that will have it install professionally.     Lots of folks are getting ripped off buying faultily units on the internet, so it good to be able to buy it from a reliable source.

WORD !!! I agree with you on that. I wish there were more trust worthy people on the internet, then we wouldn't have to rely on the FBI or other agencies to help us with internet fraud cases.

FWIW, retailers don't make "most of their money" on installs. At least, my particular retailer makes about half the profit on our line of alarms on the actual alarm itself. And we turn away installs on alarms bought outside our establishment unless we're very slow, because we make more money if we sell them the unit as well as the install.
But my particular retailer also knows that if we install the alarm, there's a 1-2% chance of it coming back. If we let Joe Public install it, there's a 30-70% (depending on area of the country and the particular promotion ongoing) that it'll be returned as "defective". Since we offer a 30-day money back guarantee on everything in the store, keeping returns down is a pretty high priority. . .

  Guys,

I didn't aim to start problems here. I'm an electrician by trade and have worked on vehicles in the past. This will be my first install. All I want is a good reliable remote start/keyless entry that hopefully works first time... every time if installed correctly. I'm installing one on a 95 explorer and then on my father-in-laws 2002 focus. If you have a father-in-law you will understand why I don't want a piece of junk. I don't want "bells and whistles" just start it and open the doors.

 Thanks to All!

You're not starting problems-- if anything, I'm hijacking the thread... :)

In that case the Compustar 1WAM-S is the unit that I recommend for both vehicles. The Focus will need a bypass modules as well.
