I got an old Pioneer DEH-3300. My question is, if there are still people who used to own the same, have they experienced theirs shutting on and off several times and then suddenly fine after a few minutes. But when i shut down the engine and start it back up, it seems like I go through that same routine over and over. Newbie here needs help!!!

Most decks will do this if speaker leads are touching, or grounding out somewhere. It's possible a speaker is blown (shorted voice coil). Is the unit itself hot? Does something smell like it's burning?

I would try this.

Meter all of your speaker wires with the positive end connected to the wire in question, and the negative grounded to the car (cig lighter perhaps). if you get resistance, you need to replace that wire because its shorting against the car.

Meter the ground for voltage drop. connect negative meter lead to battery and positive to the ground in the deck harness. make sure its below 1.0v. if not, reground to a chassie ground with a drop below 1.0v.

Else, check the deck harness. Make sure the wires are not fraied and touching. make sure that the pins are still making a firm connection. with short dash areas in some cars (some s-10's or Cavaliers) the harness gets worn after a while.

Hey thanks Geep and Azid!!! Iwill double-check the speaker lead connections for the fronts. The old Benzes (77 280SE) got these funny fader switch that I tried to bypass due to I was getting continuity signals in not just one speaker wire but to actually two and sometimes three. Thank you!! I'll try and do this this weekend. And I like your idea Azid of checking for voltage drop. I hope and Im pretty sure one of your suggestions or a combination of, will solve my problem.
