Here's a news story which should be of interest to those in the 12 volt security business:

Actually read the white paper on this yesterday.... rather interesting. THey managed to crack the Speedpass, and of all things... a 2005 Ford Escape. Now... it is rather impractical for a theif to do this out in a parking lot, but once they tow a vehicle back to a shop, they have lots of time to do it.
Oddly enough, the Phillips and Siemens immobilizer systems use a higher encryption factor than the TI ones (Ford). So, while Ford products are for now, considered compromised, new Dodge/Mercedes stuff should be ok. As far as GM is concerned, a good thief can still make off with a Passlock2 vehicle, PK3 is a little bit harder. As far as VAG products are concerned.... hard to say. Their immobilizer system is one of the very very few that has absolutely no way of programming a key to it without some very specific information that is provided by the cluster and ECM. THese numbers are, in turn, used to generate another access code to the immobilizer portion of the cluster (and the code is valid for 24hrs, btw.), and then key coding is enabled.... as long as you have the proper scan tool. As far as "sniffing" the key's actual RFID signature remotely, you would have to be prety close... within inches of the key. Not so easily done.
This looks like a "wait and see" sort of thing. Pretty sure the automotive industry will be ok for a while yet.
