The display on my buddy's head unit went out.  Where's a good place to start troubleshooting this type of problem?

It's a Kenwood KDC MP919.  We tried resetting it and no luck.  Is there any way to repair this?

Thanks

If it's a fold down face or motorized it's the ribbon cable. I've repaired two of my own. The cable is usually $25.00-$45.00 Retail. Not very hard to do yourself.

Indeed, more than likely this is the problem, the KDC-MP919 is two model years old, so there isn't a warranty on this unit. If he wants to keep this unit,  I wouldn't suggest changing the ribbon yourself, if he wants to keep the unit, then bring it to a Kenwood authorized dealer, they'll send it off, or as we do, they may have a local tech. to repair it, it will cost about $100 - $120.

But of course if you guys want to "experiment", then good luck. I personally wouldn't want to spend $45.00 for the ribbon and mess it up. It isn't very hard to change, but why take the risk?

I appreciate both responses.....I'll see what he wants to do.

Thanks
