550 ESP Problem

I'm still having this problem with my Remote start. Whether on Tach, or on (high/low) voltage the remote start runs about 10 seconds or so, then shuts down. The sequence of events is:

1. Truck starts, I get dash lights, radio, a/c and whatnot.

2. After about 5 seconds I get a 'click' in the control module.
3. About 5 or so seconds more the relays de-energize and the truck shuts down.

I'm at a loss at this point, as I'm a layman with this type of thing, but I've been a mechanic for 18 years so I'm not oblivious to 'how' the system is wiRED / works.

On the box for the 550 ESP there is a sticker that tells you how to learn the tach when you first install it. You may not have the box but you must use the program switch for this. I installed one of these a few years ago and was about to go nuts with this problem. Then I saw this note on the box. It was left out of the instructions and added to the box.  I'm sorry but right now I can't remember exactly how its done but I think you start the car and hold down the program switch until the led comes on steady. Try it and I will check on this and let you know tomorrow.

Info on the car? You could also verify that the tach wire is the problem by looking at the led when it shuts down or by switching it's programming to voltage sense.

This is on my personal vehicle, 1996 Ford Ranger. The tach learn sequence from the manual is Start the truck, within 5 seconds hold the valet switch, when the tach is learned the led will light steady. When I learn the tach, it does light steady, I will look t6o see what it does when it shuts down.

I got the tach wire at the coil. Yellow/white.

There's got to be something I'm missing, I've read over the install numerous times, and checked behind myself. I'm willing to try anything!

The led should blink a certain number of times to let you know what shut it down. Does it try to restart on its own?

I just looked this up and the manual said that you got it set up for voltage sense. To try programming it for low voltage reference. Yes you can use the tach but obiviosly that's not working for ya.  It's worth a try

Thanks for all of the help, I would have pulled all of my hair out by now if it wasn't for the support.

Turns out it was the Neutral Safety Switch wire. The wire was pinched and it was severed enough to short.
