I am looking into putting 5" monitors into the head rests on the 1997 ford explorer 4 door w/sunroof. There are 2 metal bars in the the seat. They run horizontal to each other and are about 3 to 4 inches apart. I could cut one out but i would think that ford put them in there for a good reason.  Any thoughts. Thanks.

Do you have a pic of the headrests? Most of the installs I do have bars which are vertical. I use zip ties to secure the monitor to the headrest, and it sits solid without compromising safety. How far from the rear cover are the bars? And what type of cushion material is used?
