Does anyone have any experience with Cold Cathodes?

Example:

Cold Cathode Lighting, reviews/opinions - Last Post -- posted image.

I'm wondering how good of quality they are, and how long they last?

Does anyone have them Outside? (under the car, engine bay)

I'm actually thinking about putting these behind my business sign (which is outside)... I was told that all you need to do is silicone the ends and they are ready for the outdoors. Also, what kind of 110V AC to 12V DC converter do you suggust to light these?

The quality of CCFL(Cold Cathode Flourescent Lights) is equivilant to that of neons, its just that it doesn't produce as much heat. They are more suited for interior use(less abuse).

For the 110AC to 12DC converter, I would suggest a wall adapter http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G14801&variation=&aitem=8&mitem=24 (just splice the wires)

i did not even think about a regular wall adapter!

Once I figure out how many i'll be getting and what the total Amps of them all togeather are... then i can get the correct size adapter.

They are fragile. They are great i the car used as footwell lighting or what not... even in the trunk but some what fragile. small and bright.

do you think i could put it in the engine area...???

I also was wondering if i could put the inverter in the engine bay as well, or would i have to extend the wires leading to the ccfl
