I've tried a couple searches, but can't find out what I need to know. I have a 2000 Discovery but noone makes a kit to fit an aftermarket HU. I'd like to find out the basics as to use 'glass to make a custom kit mount my HU in the stock opening. The dash has a slight curve to at the top of the opening. If there is website or thread on this site that I missed that would be great too. Thanks in advance...

Putting a stereo in a Discovery.... that'll be sweet. I would recommend that you get another factory piece where the original HU went ( You can definitely use the one that's in the truck but if you screw up you still gotta buy another piece). If you want it to be 'glass but still keep the factory curve, make a mold of the original by taping it off and putting some sort of release agent on it. Next, cut out the opening for your new HU. You might want to cut and mold in a piece of MDF behind the opening. I'm sure some the pros on here may have more or better suggestions but that should get you started.
Nothing is impossible!

Metra makes a kit, more like a trim piece #89-9400. if you notice the opening is a DIN opening when you pull the radio out. there are two slots on the bottom that the radio opening. the trim will cover that.

I've seen that Metra piece but just didn't know why they didn't make a full kit for it. I haven't had the radio out yet. I'll buy those little tools and take it out and see what I'm dealing with. Then I'll know if I need to glass or not.

It is just a din opening, the kit is not even needed to put a radio in, it just makes the bottom look a little prettier.  Also, if you have the pink plug behind the radio, either get the harness, or solder RCAs in (i think they are all grounded to one pin) it sounds great!
