Had a customer that wanted a hardwire sat. radio install. We looked at it today but couldn't get the radio out. We got the front wood grain off(just popped off) and took the four torx out. I heard somewhere not to remove the shifter trim. Not sure where to go from here. He's coming back on Saturday so we can do research and finish. My question is can we even touch the antenna wire or if we can catch it somewhere else. Or is it just something stupid that im missing. Thanks for the help.

most sattalite recievers( xm / sirrius) now com w/  wireless  fm modulators  you can tune in from the menu.    as for power go to the fuse box  or main power harness  20 minutes Done !

As a VW Tech I can tell you that w/o an FM Modulator removing the radio is futile.  Antenna wire is not standard and you probably will not be able to wire inline.  I have so far been unsuccessful in finding adapters to direct wire a modulator.

Metra does have adapters  single and in a set of two , they are in fact not your standard antenna  and not the euro type either   The only downfall is that the adapters are not  a 90 degree, and tha your parts guy at the dealer has to find the right antenna ext   (which has been superceded   again and come in 6"  lenghs. Trust me they do make them  and will be hard for parts guy to find ) they are like  XM ,Sirrius  antennas   and  can if you solder correctly   they can be spliced ....     If you need to find the right part ##   MIKE  At BOZANNI VW  in Covina , CA  Has the right part #'s       Try to find a wirless modulator  works fine ,  and will save you some headache!!!!
