a different type of box wont change the fact that the trunk doesnt filter the bass into the cabin, u might wanna see if u can vent the noise into the cabin, possibly by cutting holes in the rear deck and using speaker grills to cover the holes so it looks like extra speakers or something.

here's an easy one that may work.....reverse phase ya sub wiring. could make a difference in ya car....otherwise it's the sounddeadening route. Dynamat the rear shelf, maybe space invader or similar goo into the c-pillars. I have done that before. It is time consuming but well worth it.If done properly the sub should sound good regardless of whether boot is opened or closed. The customer I did it for didnt want his system to be heard outside, then was mad when he got the car back because little hatches sounded louder than his with 2 x 10's {but only on the outside of the vehicle}. I built custom enclosure using mdf and plexiglass with a KICKER L712 SOLOBARIC firing through the ski port. No rattles at all in the rear, tail lights, licence plate etc. Sounded awesome where it should..inside the vehicle.
